Impact Accelerators | Cognitive and Brain Health
Cognitive and Brain Health
The Cognitive and Brain Health (CBH) Impact Accelerator will use our network’s knowledge of brains, minds, and bodies to guide current and future generations to happier healthier lives through novel interdisciplinary interventions. Through thoughtful exploration, CBH will identify problems impacting society in this realm and help launch Impact Engines to solve them.
MISSION:
ADDRESSING UNPRECEDENTED CHALLENGES ACROSS THE LIFESPAN
REVOLUTIONIZING CARE:
A LIFESPAN APPROACH TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND WELLBEING
We investigate the effects of lifestyle choices and behaviors (e.g., physical activity, artistic engagement, dietary choices) on brain activity and structure, cognitive and affective performance, and physiological indices of health (e.g., fitness, adiposity, autonomic markers, sleep, stress). From a Neuroimaging perspective, our interests lie in understanding how health and lifestyle factors influence brain and behavior as it relates to increased health and effective functioning for individuals across the lifespan– from infants and children to older adults.
We bring to bear multiple perspectives and methodologies (including interventions, state of the art multimodal neuroimaging, computational modeling, and sophisticated behavioral paradigms) to explicate mechanisms of brain health and disease to improve the lives of individuals across the lifespan. As per Northeastern’s mission, this is truly theoretically-motivated, use-inspired research.
